A no-nonsense approach to getting things done

At Deacons we appreciate the importance of bringing projects to successful fruition.

It’s one thing to know the risks. You also need lawyers who can do what it takes to get a project completed on time, and avoid setbacks along the way. Deacons has the experience to provide you with the kind of advice that makes projects happen.

Deacons’ lawyers will be there for you at the outset, to help with advice on structuring and finance matters, as well as with establishing joint ventures. We can ensure that construction contracts are in order, assisting with risk assessments and identifying problems that may arise during the process. Throughout our aim is to stop disagreements and delays turning into disputes.

As Hong Kong’s largest and longest-established independent law firm, we have many years’ experience of acting for developers, contractors, sub-contractors, consultants and suppliers, as well as government bodies and financial institutions. Meanwhile our Mandarin speaking lawyers can advise you on the technicalities of construction contracts, local labour laws, joint ventures and regulatory requirements in the PRC.

Our successes have not gone unnoticed. Deacons’ construction team’s skill in commercial, residential, energy and infrastructure projects across Asia has attracted accolades in the major legal directories, including a high ranking in Legal 500 Asia Pacific each year since 2000. Additionally, our practitioners have written for leading publications and play an active role in many of the major industry bodies.

Recent work highlights include:

  • Advising the subsidiary of a major listed Hong Kong developer on a HK$2.7 billion high profile development in Macau. Our role included contract management: reviewing all construction contracts for the project including the main contract, sub-contracts and consultancy agreements.
  • Acting for a high profile investment company, the employer of a major residential development in Foshan, PRC on a project worth over RMB500 million. Our role included advising on PRC construction practices as well as contract management: reviewing all contract documents including consultancy agreements, main contract and sub-contracts.

Please take a look at our construction pages for more information on the range of work we undertake. And if you would like more information on how we can help you, please feel free to get in touch.
